Our City Manager, Mike Levinson resigned tonight at a special city commission meeting. Although completely justified in leaving, the city of Coral Springs will lose a great leader.
Mike came to the city to be near his young daughter and soon became Assistant City Manager. When the City Manager left Mike assumed that post.
Levinson's goals were always focused. Low taxes, superior service and low debt. He would retire old debt before taking on new debt.
When it came to money Mike Levinson was a genius. Being a retired Investment Banker didn't hurt.
His greatest accomplishments (besides a beautiful daughter) were in making the city the TWO TIME Winner of the Malcolm Baldrige Sterling Award for Excellence in business performance and leadership. The fact that this award is only given to corporations was quite the triumph for Coral Springs in being the first city EVER to Win, this prestigious award. He empowered a GREAT Leadership Team and the city ran like a well oiled machine.
No Leadership position is without conflict. When your successes are great and you have given your best and your all, it is time to say....All is Well.
I believe that Mike Levinson has a great future before him. Companies and cities around the world will have the opportunity to advance, expand and excel from his leadership expertise.
What is a great loss for the city of Coral Springs will be a win for the people and companies that Mike assists in their journey for success.
Sad to see him go, but happy to see him enjoy his next journey of success.

Obviously, this article was written before Mr. Levinson's handled of the police pension and internal auditor came to light. The day he left the city was probably the best day in Coral Springs since 1963! The journey he left the new city manager and new commision to deal with should make Mr. Levinson ashamed!
David, the new city government seems to be doing just fine. Have you noticed all the new improvements around the city? Joy
I agree with both of those comments. I googled Mike Levinson and saw this article. At the time of his resignation, I too thought it was a sad day in Coral Springs. But after watching the new commission, with the new city manager, I feel that it is an exciting time to live in Coral Springs. The new leaders of are city are being proactive, addressing our concerns and the areas that need improvement. As far as Levinson, he should be ashamed. I watched that meeting the other night and I was shocked. I do agree with some of the commission that this man was negligent. But watching them work together lets me know that any issue the city will face will be handled the right way. Thank you for the giving me the oppurtunity to vent.
It is a lot more serious than him just being negligent, he had to have lied. In the 2010 city business plan it said the pension plan funding had been looked into and the city attorney was trying to find a way to circumvent existing laws on funding. He knew what was going on and his job required him to tell the commission. When you go into union negotiations you need an actuary chart to tell you how much everything is going to cost. He knew we weren't covering it year after year and still gave away more benefits. It seems to me only one reason to do that and that would be financial gain, nothing else makes sense. But seriously how much money can one man need. I am flabbergasted that he applied to be city manager of Ft Lauderdale after giving no notice when he so called retired and that they are even considering him. Only reason for quiting so quickly was he knew stuff was going to come out if the two commissioners investigated him.
